This is an authentic antique Continental European wooden box, likely dating from the early 1900s (1900-1920). It is a superb example of the craftsmanship popular in Austria or Germany during the Art Nouveau and early Art Deco periods.
The box is constructed with a stunning, highly figured Burl Wood (Burr Walnut) veneer, giving it a rich, mottled pattern and deep, glowing color.
The focal point is the lid, which features an elegant floral marquetry (inlay) design of roses and foliage in various shades of contrasting woods. The interior is polished wood, perfect for storing jewelry, keepsakes, or desk accessories. It features the original brass hardware and key escutcheon.
